The future is looking bright, fellow gamers! 2025 promises to be a blockbuster year for all things video games, with massive sequels, original IPs, and boundary-pushing tech gearing up to blow our minds (and possibly our wallets). The whispers around these titles are already making the gaming community buzz with excitement, and honestly, we’re here for it.

From sprawling RPGs to heart-stopping action games, here are the ten games we’re counting down the days for in 2025.

1. Grand Theft Auto VI

Yes, GTA VI is finally coming, and yes, we’re all frothing at the mouth and crossing our fingers that it's not delayed. Rockstar has been notoriously hush-hush about most of the details, but what we do know already sounds absolutely wild. Longtime fans can look forward to a return to Vice City, with a living, breathing open world that adapts and evolves as the story progresses.

The protagonist duo (one of whom is female!) might just shake up the GTA formula in clever ways. And knowing Rockstar, there will be an obscene number of side missions, Easter eggs, and ways to get hilariously distracted from the main quest.

We all have our hopes regarding gameplay, but we're pretty sure Rockstar will once again exceed our expectations.

2. Assassin's Creed Shadows

We’ve begged. We’ve pleaded. Ubisoft listened. Assassin's Creed is finally taking us to Feudal Japan! The latest installment, Shadows, has the gaming community buzzing with anticipation because ninja-meets-assassin is a match made in stealth heaven. The game is set in the late Edo period—think tense political upheaval, rival samurai clans, and enough cool action to pack every Netflix samurai drama into one sweet-looking game.

Fans will play as a shinobi caught in the deadly web of espionage, honor, and betrayal, all while becoming an agent of the Brotherhood. Ubisoft is promising an intricately layered map with stunning visuals—you’ll have moonlit rooftops to scale, ancient temples to infiltrate, and mountains you’ll want to stand on dramatically for that cinematic assassin moment.

3. Marvel’s Wolverine

When it was first announced, Marvel’s Wolverine shattered the internet’s collective calm (as if we had any to begin with). Being developed by Insomniac Games—the same team that gifted us Marvel’s Spider-Man—this standalone Wolverine adventure is shaping up to be brutal, gritty, and everything you’d expect from everyone’s favorite Canadian berserker.

The trailers have already set the tone by showing a battered, wandering Logan who's trying to escape his violent past, one drink at a time… until trouble literally pulls up a seat at the bar. But Logan’s claws have a habit of solving the unsolvable, and we’re ready to shred through all the chaos Insomniac throws our way. While we don't know for sure it'll be out in 2025, we're certainly hoping to get our hands on it.

4. Ghost of Tsushima 2

2019’s Ghost of Tsushima was one of those instant-classic games you couldn’t stop thinking about after the credits rolled. Now, its sequel is bringing back Jin Sakai—with more samurai action, more epic duels, and more stunning vistas that can—and will—stop you mid-mission for a screenshot.

The developers have teased that the stakes will be higher this time, with Jin’s legacy as the Ghost colliding with new enemies who push his moral code to its limits. Get ready for uglier weather and even more breathtaking cherry blossom petals blowing across the screen while you slice through your foes in cinematic perfection.

5. Avowed

Obsidian Entertainment knows how to create killer RPGs (The Outer Worlds, anyone?), and Avowed is shaping up to be their best attempt yet at crafting an epic fantasy world. Set in Eora (the same universe as Pillars of Eternity), this first-person RPG revolves around magic-based combat and dungeon-crawling exploration.

But it’s not just another Skyrim-like clone. Obsidian is pairing its trademark storytelling expertise with deeper player agency, allowing you to craft a character driven by your decisions more than a fixed class. Basically, it’s going to feel like YOUR adventure every step of the way—and we’re here for it.

6. Fable

Longtime Fable fans, rejoice! The reboot is finally landing in 2025, and while Lionhead Studios isn’t behind this new project, Playground Games is no slouch. Returning to Albion after over a decade feels like coming home—but this time, the tech powering it blows the original trilogy out of the water.

The new Fable is leaning into humor just as much as before—we’re looking at a game that remembers when Fable was laugh-out-loud funny, not just a pretty fantasy world. Expect sharp wit, nuanced quests, and maybe even chickens (please tell us you can still punt them).

7. Silent Hill f

The last game on this list, but certainly not the least. Konami shocked us with news of their Silent Hill revival, but the icing on the cake has been Silent Hill f. Inspired by Japanese folklore and set in rural 1960s Japan, this horror game leans into eerie imagery and psychological dread that plans to worm its way into your brain for days.

Terrifying monsters, deep atmospheric storytelling, and the classic Silent Hill DNA make this a must-play for horror fans. Turn off the lights, crank up the sound, and prepare to lose sleep—potentially forever.

2025 is shaping up to be a ridiculous year for gaming, overflowing with sequels you’ve been dying to play, revivals of cherished franchises, and bold new projects pushing the medium forward. It’s a good time to start plugging your consoles into surge protectors and stocking up on snacks, because this backlog is going to need serious commitment.
